Do you ship your cakes?
As of right now, no! Hopefully in the future, some things will be able to be shipped. Sadly cakes will probably never be shipped.
Do you deliver?
Yes I do! Delivery is $.50/mile and I am able to help set up dessert at your event as well.
When should i order?
Generally, it is never too early to order a wedding cake. The more notice the better! However, 4-6 months in advance is standard. For party cakes and other treats, please try to get your order in at least 2 weeks in advance. Bottom line, early is always good in this regard.
Where are you located?
I currently bake from my home kitchen in Saco, ME located about 20 minutes south of Portland.
Do you charge for tastings/consultations?
If you would like to order a sample box, they start at $40. It includes 4 generous samples of cake and 4 samples of buttercream/filling. You will be able to mix and match the flavors you choose in order to find what you love most! If you would like to set up a consultation, email me directly. There is no cost! Please bring any inspiration that you would like to show me.
What is your booking policy?
For weddings and large events, I ask for $100 deposit as a retainer. The remaining is due up to two weeks before your event. Any changes you wish to make to your order must be sent to me before that time as well. For party cakes and orders under $100, there is no deposit necessary. Payment for these orders is due 7 days prior to the event.
Can you send me a design sketch beforehand?
Why do you ask what my budget is?
The reason for this is so that I know how I can best serve you. I would hate to design or create something that you love but is out of your price range. The possibilities in cake decorating are endless, but we can tailor your cake to your budget to make it a masterpiece that you fall in love with. The more info you can give me about your vision and expectations, the easier it is for me to design your perfect centerpiece. If you have no idea what your budget should be, I can create some sketches or give you examples of certain cakes and their prices.
Do you do Fondant?
Short answer, no. In the past, I have done a few decorative pieces such as names and Lego blocks on cakes. I have built my business on the standard that every cake should look as good as it tastes, and fondant never tastes as good as the inside of a cake. For me (and for several cake lovers out there), fondant gets in the way of the flavor and texture, and doesn't represent what's at the heart of the creation. I am happy to do small fondant details for extra cost, but I do not cover cakes with fondant or do large decorated sections.
Do you offer allergy free products?
I do offer gluten free chocolate or vanilla cake, as well as some cookies. Keep in mind that Skye's is not a certified gluten free bakery...all of our products are made in the same facility. Please inquire if there are any questions on this topic. If we do not carry something that suits your needs, I am happy to recommend a bakery that might be able to accommodate you.
